The White Bear

A collection of photos of the white bear near Elkford.

September 3, 2008

Well it looks like it is still near Elkford. I took these pictures Sept.3rd / 08 while on my way to the cabin. The bear was on the bank near Warren Siefrit's place. He had a bear trap in his yard and I was thinking that perhaps they were after this little guy. The trap is now gone.

Howdy All,

These pictures where taken by myself yesterday September the 9th 2008. This bear was trapped in Elkford because she was getting into unmanaged attractants and chasing dogs. The bear was trapped and released back into the wild. I had heard many stories about this bear and seen some bogus pictures but this bear although she is dirty seems to be pure white with a white nose and blue eyes but not an albino, and I saw her with my own eyes.

Black mamma and white cub photos

These 3 pictures have been circulating around the world since 2004.  The headings change with different names of towns and states.  After talking to a Manitoba Conservation Officer and the Zoo Curator at the Assiniboine Zoo I believe these were taken 250 miles north of Winnipeg Manitoba.  The bear named Maskwa, Cree for bear, was relocated to the zoo after her mother was struck and killed by a vehicle.  She is still there today and is loved by thousands.

Has anyone seen our special white bear?  She hasn't been seen in 2 weeks?

Have any of you every seen a white bear or a variation in color black bear?  If you have, even if it was years ago, could you please let me know.  I am very interested and would like to talk with you.

Trapped again in Bellevue?

There's a story in the October 31 edition of the Crowsnest Pass Promoter.  See their photo gallery, click next until the 8th photo.

At first I thought this was the same photo, then I noticed the ear tags and the cage was different.

The caption reads:

Blonde bear captured at Bellevue, AB

10/30/2008 01:16:55 PM
Bear Aware...This 160-pound blonde black bear was trapped in a yard in Bellevue. He had been eating the homeowner’s unpicked apples for about two to three weeks. The young bear was shown to school students on Oct. 27 as part of Fish and Wildlife’s Bear Award program.

We had a wonderful visitor chance to visit us in Elkford/Elk Valley this Sept.. It was amazingly, a white bear with blue eyes! Most of us living in the Elk Valley had never seen a white bear here before and we feel it is very special to us and like anything that is special we value and treasure it and want to give it the care and respect we feel it deserves.
