Avalanche News - Avalanche report points to lack of teachers’ mountaineering knowledge

US Avalanche News - 9 July 2017 - 9:49am
The price paid for slighting the risks involved in students from Tochigi Prefecture (Japan) climbing a snow-covered mountain was too great. A committee set up by the board of education has released an interim report on the accident in which eight people died in an avalanche that hit high school students and others in the town of Nasu in March.

Avalanche News - NASA photographed a huge avalanche from space

US Avalanche News - 8 July 2017 - 6:49am
A scientist has discovered a rare picture of an avalanche taken by a NASA satellite more than 20 years ago. Such a photo is highly unusual because avalanches only last seconds or minutes, and NASA's satellite fleet covers some 200 million square miles of the planet's surface. What's more, most satellites take only still photographs, which limits their ability to capture brief random events like avalanches.

Elkford ATV Facebook - 30 May 2015 - 4:40am
Elkford leads the province in the ability to ride from home.
Our standing is thanks to our club president Murray Haight's recent good work, and our club's great relationships with the municipality, province and police. Thanks also to ATV/BC for their relentless efforts, ensuring that licensing and registration came with this advantage to legally cross a highway. And especially a big thank you to our MLA Bill Bennett, who had a big hand in getting this kicked off and done right!

Please share this with as many people as possible. As the result of positive dialog by the Elkford Club and their Bylaw allowing OHVs in town they have been able to move forward with the permits to give them more access and opportunities to ride. Again Elkford is leading the way.

Teck CMO2 Closure At the March 30 meeting in Sparwood Teck committed to updatin...

Elkford ATV Facebook - 5 May 2015 - 11:08am
Teck CMO2 Closure

At the March 30 meeting in Sparwood Teck committed to updating our club on work that is currently being carried out near Coal-Leach Road near Teck’s Coal Mountain Phase 2 project, off Corbin Road.

Teck’s Coal Mountain Phase 2 (CMO2) is currently conducting a drilling program as part of our ongoing site evaluation and project planning. As a result of this work, Teck needs to temporarily extend the access and hunting closure area in order to maintain public and worker safety.

The closure will be in effect from May 4 to May 30, 2015. During this time the Coal-Leach Road will remain open but for a brief period during the next week, travel may be delayed for a few minutes as drilling activity takes place on or adjacent to the road. There will be a safety vehicle site with personnel able to provide direction and information for access through the temporary closure area.

Teck appreciates your cooperation and understanding. We would be happy to respond to your questions or concerns or receive your feedback either by email at feedbackteckcoal@teck.com or by phone at 1-855-806-6854.
